Sports Funding Information

What is PE and Sports Premium Funding?

The P.E. and Sport Premium is additional funding schools receive which is designed to help primary schools improve the quality of the P.E. and sport activities they offer their pupils.

In 2018/2019, school's sports funding allocation was £18,240. Please click on 'Sports Funding Impact Statement and Strategy 2018-2019' to find out more about how schools spends our allocation of funding.

When allocating funds through the Sports Premium Funding there are 5 key indicators to consider:

Key indicator 1: The engagement of all pupils in regular physical activity – Chief Medical Officer guidelines recommend that primary school children undertake at least 30 minutes of physical activity a day in school.

At the beginning of the academic year we became a partner school with Huddersfield Giants, through this partnership we have Coach Jordan running both a morning club and lunch time club to ensure children are undertaking physical activity at these parts of the day.

We have specialised coaches delivering daily sports at lunch times acros early years, key stage one and key stage two to encourage children's participation in a variety of activities. The activities provided are regulary monitored and impact is measured by our PE leader.

Key indicator 2: The profile of Sport and PE being raised across the school as a tool for whole school improvement.

By becoming a partner school with Huddersfield Giants we have already experienced many rich learning experiences, we had a visit from 'Big G' who offered all children FREE vouchers to visit The Zone and matches. In February, we took the whole school on a trip to the stadium and The Zone. The children took part in a variety of activities and had a fantastic time!

Upcoming event: Match Day at Huddersfield Giants - 12.7.19

In January, we were very lucky today to have GB athlete Leah Barrow visit the whole school. She shared with us the determination and resilience she has shown to become a GB athlete and shared her aspirations for the future. Leah taught us how to develop our growth mindset and believe in ourselves! Throughout the morning we were fortunate to take part in a workshop where Leah demonstrated the hard training she has to do every day! We had a go at some of the exercises and felt a lot of respect for Leah and how hard she works. Then, we held her silver medal and listened to her journey of becoming an athlete.

Key indicator 3: Increased confidence, knowledge and skills of all staff in teaching PE and sport.

We use Sports and Dance specialists throughout the school to upskill all staff in the effective teaching and assessment of children.

Key indicator 4: Broader experience of a range of sports and activities offered to all pupils.

We offer different sporting activities through our broad and balanced curriculum through the delivery of both staff and specialist teachers.

At Towngate Primary Academy, we offer a variety of clubs to all pupils to provide them with different experiences of sporting activities. These clubs include:

- Multisports - Netball - Football - Dance

- Acro

Key indicator 5: Increased participation in competetive sport.

Each year, our KS1 children participate in different actvities inspired by the olympics at Thornes Park. This upcoming year we are offering this opportunity to KS2 children. We have relationships with the local high school where we attend different sporting activities and tournaments.

Within our local community we have taken part in competitive games in both netball and football.

Swimming

Our Year 6 children attend weekly swimming lessons. We aim for children to leave Towngate Primary Academy having achieved the following skills:

- Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres

- Use a range of strokes effectively (front crawl, backstroke, breatstroke)

- Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations
