Values Based Education
Our Academy vision: Inspire self-belief, instil moral values and ignite a love for life-long learning.
Central to everything we do is around teaching pupils core values, which we share with staff, children and the wider community.
These are the founding principles that inform our values based curriculum.
We strive to treat each other with respect, show honesty, and express love for our friends, family and community. Every day, we show our appreciation for the gifts we have been given, and for the world we live in. We give our children opportunities to show responsibility, and they learn though work and play to co-operate. Together we thrive. We expect everyone to show tolerance of difference, patience in adversity, and face challenge with courage and determination. We believe in equality. We understand that one of the greatest gifts we can share is friendship. With optimism, hope and humility, our children can achieve anything they set their hearts on. Through trust, understanding and thoughtfulness, we can build a community of unity and peace. Every moment is an opportunity to do our best, to achieve quality in all our outcomes.
Each one of us, every day, in every way, seek to live by these Towngate values, and to help others to do so too.

What is Values Based Education?
Values-based Education is an approach to teaching that works with values. It creates a strong learning environment that enhances academic achievement and develops students' social and relationship skills that last throughout their lives. Values-based Education (VbE) is truly transformational, providing a structure for a positive ethos that impacts on the whole school community. It has a direct influence on the entire curriculum, and most specifically on Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development, Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE), and of course on the teaching of British Values.
How does it look at Towngate?
All pupils at Towngate are taught how values underpin everything the Academy does and this gives a meaningful context for British Values and SMSC, supporting their understanding of how they underpin our society. As a values-based school we ensure that British Values are introduced, discussed and lived out through the wider values-based philosophy that infuses the ethos and work of the school. All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts so that pupils can embrace these concepts with enthusiasm and demonstrate a good understanding of their application to their own lives.
The skills and attributes developed through the teaching of values enhance the curriculum and pupils’ learning behaviours; raise attainment; attendance and pupil wellbeing.
How often do we teach Values?
Here at Towngate Primary Academy, we follow a two year cycle which we have designed specifically to meet the needs of our pupils. As a whole school we focus on a chosen value each month. Every child is initally taught the meaning of this value and discussions/lessons take place to enhance pupils' understanding. Throughout the month, staff identify pupils who demonstate or have a significant understanding of the new value, this is rewarded with a golden values sticker.
How can I help my child at home?
The value of the month can be found on the Academy's weekly newsletter. Tasks will be sent home along with a story you can share with your child to further explore the value. Please feel free to collect a paper copy from the Academy office.
This month's value is: Respect
